Going Against the Grain

Integrating art into the STEM idea of learning is very unrealistic and feels unnecessary for being able to accomplish the American dream. That dream is the main goal for all Americans; they want to live a happy comfortable life with plenty of money. Art is just not as necessary in present day work due to the rise in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The world sees STEM as the easiest way to increase wealth as it is very important in order to further our research to improve our resources. Art doesn’t do this. All it does is create a distraction, slowing the progress in our technology, which is very important for us to survive. The world is having so many problems with pollution, global warming and over population. In a couple hundred years, green house gasses could continue to deteriorate the ozone layer, which could make earth inhabitable. Why should we continue our art collection when this problem is so relevant? There are also problems with disease and sickness in our world that continues to kill millions a year, so why shouldn’t we focus on finding cures for illnesses such as cancer? I think we need to consider all of the problems the world has and figure out how to fix those and not worry about art because it just distracts us from the ultimate goal-advances in our future to ensure long life and preservation of our planet. Plus, without a planet to live on, no one can create art anyways.

I think that you have very strong arguments here, but that they could be made stronger by accepting that art does have a place, just maybe not next to STEM and related subjects. I like how you bring in a global aspect, something that ties this not only to the United States but also to the world. Interesting! The last sentence really punctuates your statements.

I like your arguments. I am normally not fond of multiple questions in a row but in this case, I think it blends in well. As already stated in a previous comment I also like how you bring in a more global and a more local (US) look into the fold. Good Job!

your overall idea and argument is very strong. however you could make this more complex by saying that art has a place just not mixed in with other subjects. when you discuss the world it makes you sound knowledgable and shows that you have ab understanding of what our topic is really about. your argument is very strong keep up the good work
